Villa Dageraad (Dawn in English) is a marvelous example of Art Nouveau. It was built in 1910 for Mr. Arthur Gillis. He was a textile baron, the owner of a fur company. He was a very cultured man and also very socially motivated.
The architect is the famous Paul Cauchie (1875-1952). Cauchie was foremost a painter and a decorator, one of the great Art Nouveau men of Belgium.
In 1994 the villa and grounds were added to the heritage list of protected sites. The Villa is now Hotel Shamon. It has eight rooms with all modern conveniences.
