The Meetjesland in the north of East-Flanders, Belgium

Our Meetjesland, more pictures

This picture was first published in a really great book
called "Het Meetjesland, per gemet gemeten".
This book was published in 2003 by "de Eekloonaar".
We congratulate the photographers, Jacques Cleppe and Marc Schoonackers;
Ronny De Schuyter for the text and
Robert De Lust for choosing the poems.
We thank Mr. Jacques Cleppe for his permission to bring you here this superb picture.

But what does it mean, the title of this book?
In our Meetjesland land is measured in "gemet", plural "gemeten".
A "gemet" is just short of an acre.
Some believe that's where the name of our region comes from.
But "gemeten" is also the past participle of a verb meaning "to measure".
