St.-Jan-in-Eremo's windmill
This picture was taken near the beginning of WW I; we see here two German soldiers and some children.
We read in "Groot-St. Laureins in oude Foto's" where this picture was also published that
the mill was set on fire and burned out on 1 March 1915 because it served as a lookout for the enemy.
This series of 5 volumes by Ivan De Wilde was a really great initiative
and these picture books remain very popular to this day.
They were published by Taptoe of Eeklo and Volume 1 appeared in 1990.

whose mum lived in the house that was built where this mill had been.
